The expansion of Leiria’s Landfill was held in order to build a warehouse for Municipal Solid Waste from the cities of Pombal, Leiria, Marinha Grande, Batalha, Porto de Mós, Ourém and Santarém. This construction included, in addition to the landfill work itself, the infrastructures, support and additional equipment, internal traffic routes and access to work sites, water supply, the seal and the landscaping. It also included the implementation of an effective system to minimize environmental impacts, involving the following systems: waterproofing, drainage and treatment of leachate and domestic sewage produced in the landfill, drainage of rainwater and a capturing system for the biogas.
